Samsung's First Copilot Plus PC: A Thin and Light Laptop with Limited Performance Samsung has introduced its first Copilot Plus PC, the Galaxy Book4 Edge, which is designed to be a slim and lightweight laptop. However, its performance may not meet everyone's expectations. Qualcomm's new Snapdragon chips have made Windows on Arm a strong option for laptops. We have tested several laptops with these processors, and even the less powerful ones perform similarly to Intel and older AMD chips in CPU tasks, while offering better battery life. I was excited to try a laptop with Qualcomm's most powerful Snapdragon processor to see if it could deliver even more. I had a chance to see this high-end model in April, and it looked promising for creating faster and more efficient Windows PCs, potentially competing with Apple's MacBook Air M3. The Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100 chip is only found in one Copilot Plus PC: the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge. This laptop is Samsung's slimmest and lightest 16-inch model, perfect for everyday web browsing and a mix of business and creative work, as well as running Windows Copilot Plus AI applications like Live Captions and Cocreator. It shares features with the Intel-based Galaxy Book4 Ultra, such as an AMOLED display and a fingerprint reader, but it also has faster ports and Wi-Fi. The X1E-84-100 chip is meant to be up to 20 percent quicker than the next model down. Samsung had the opportunity to create a laptop that could showcase the full potential of this chip. Unfortunately, they limited its power to achieve the thinnest design possible. While the Book4 is still a good laptop, you don't necessarily need the best chip to enjoy it—and you might be better off saving your money. Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge • Price: $1749.99 Pros: • Sleek and beautiful design • Vivid display with great colors • Quiet keyboard • Over 14 hours of battery life Cons: • Other Snapdragon laptops with lower-tier chips perform better • Graphics performance is not as strong as the Zenbook S 16 • Some app compatibility issues due to the Arm processor Portability The Book4 Edge stands out as one of the most portable 16-inch laptops available, measuring less than half an inch thick and weighing under 3.5 pounds. It’s easy to carry without straining my back, and its larger size makes it feel stable in my bag compared to smaller models I've tried. It’s comfortable to hold, reducing the fear of dropping it. The build quality of the Edge is impressive. Its metal body is sturdy, and there is no flex in the lid when opening or closing it. The hinge securely holds the lid at any angle. The gray keys match nicely with the silver body, which Samsung describes as sapphire blue, though I don’t see any blue in it. The keyboard is functional but not remarkable. I appreciate that the keys are not too shallow and are quiet, which is great for someone who types heavily like me. However, they feel a bit slow and soft compared to what I expected. While I don’t dislike them, after using the Asus Zenbook S 16—another similar-sized laptop—I find myself preferring its keyboard over Samsung's.
