How Apple Intelligence is Changing How You Use Siri on Your iPhone

Apple's Siri Gets Smarter with New Features in iOS 18 After years of discussions about Apple's lack of new ideas for Siri, the company has promised a smarter version of its digital assistant. With the release of iOS 18, Siri will receive new features and updates thanks to Apple Intelligence, which is Apple's new generative AI technology, along with integration with ChatGPT. It's important to note that some exciting updates for Siri, like onscreen awareness, are not available yet and will be introduced later. Let’s explore what the new Apple Intelligence can do for the updated Siri. Now, Siri can use OpenAI's ChatGPT to answer questions it might not know. For example, if you want recipe ideas using ingredients from your garden, you can ask Siri, and it will send that information to ChatGPT to give you options. You don’t need a ChatGPT account to use this feature, but you must allow Siri to access it. Apple is making it easier for people to talk to Siri since the assistant can now understand natural language better. Even if you make mistakes while speaking, Siri will still understand you. For instance, you could say, “Siri, set an alarm for—oh no, set a timer for 10 minutes. Actually, make that five.” Siri will know what you mean. Additionally, you can ask Siri follow-up questions without repeating what you said before. If you ask where your next family reunion is, Siri will give you the location. Then, you can ask, “What will the weather be like there?” without needing to say the location again. Before, you could only talk to Siri, but now with Apple Intelligence, you can also type your questions. Just double-tap the button on your iPhone or iPad screen to ask Siri anything. This typing option is useful when you're in a quiet place and can't speak or in a noisy area where it's hard for Siri to hear you. Siri now knows more about Apple’s products and services, so if you have questions about your devices, you can ask for help. For example, you can ask how to schedule a text message to send later, and Siri will provide step-by-step instructions instead of you having to search through settings. Coming soon, Apple has promised even more features powered by Apple Intelligence for Siri. Siri will soon understand your personal context, meaning it can take actions based on your unique needs. For example, if you forget whether your friend Alice sent you a recipe via text or email, you can ask Siri to “find the recipe that Alice sent a few days ago.” Or, if you need your passport number quickly when booking a flight, you can ask Siri to pull it from your email or photos automatically.
